Frugal Pet Solutions

We have a house full of pets, four dogs, two cats and two large fish aquariums.  Our dogs, in particular, can be somewhat  high maintenance.  They're small breeds and two are snow white in color.  They get things like ear infections, discolored coats, and watery eyes.  These are just a few frugal solutions I've found along the way.

Odor Remover

Puppies will be puppies.  Our dogs are all under two years old, and anyone who has small dogs know it can be a challenge to train them.  This is mostly because they're harder to catch in action.  The following is the best odor remover ever!  It's on many other web sites online, which is how I came across it.  It's is by FAR better than any expensive odor remover on the market and it is so very inexpensive to make.

8 oz. hydrogen peroxide

1 teaspoon fresh baking soda

2 drops liquid dish or hand soap

Mix ingredients with a nonmetal spoon in a nonmetal container.  That's it!  That's your formula.

Blot and clean any fresh stains, then saturate the area with the solution.  For carpeting, be sure you saturate enough to reach the padding as well, because you know your pet did.  I like to mix in a large quantity and use in my steam cleaner periodically to freshen beyond normal steam cleaning.

You may put the formula in a spray bottle for immediate use, but do not store in the bottle as the mixture may explode a closed container.

Allow to dry thoroughly.  If you notice a white residue from the baking soda, that's easy to vacuum or wipe with a damp cloth.

This formula is effective for any strong odors in rugs, carpets, and furniture. It was actually formulated to remove skunk odor.
